On April 15, we held a trail building day on the Perryville Loop of the French River Greenway. !5 volunteers cleared approximately one-half mile of trail. This was our first on-the-ground trail construction project.
On April 23, we completed our first tree-wrapping event to keep beavers from "ringing " and killing riverside trees. Approximately 25 trees were protected at Perryville. Home Depot in Oxford has been very generous in discounting the wire mesh we use.
On April 26, eight volunteers participated in Dudley's earth day cleanup. We cleaned more than a half mile of riverbank, and the loosestrife island above the Perryville dam which has never been cleaned before
Regular general meetings are the second Wednesday of the months of February, April, June, and September.
Webster town cleanup May 3
For Webster we need to divide our forces; their isn't enough at any one spot. We'll send a truck around to the various spots.
Meet at 8am at Collins Cove. Email Ken if you need directions.
Some people will remain at Collins Cove and pick up dumped material that has lain there all winter, plus a smattering of trash out on the hook. Then they can visit the trestle.
Others will go to Mill Brook at Bigelow Road. This is a small area but filthy. At least one person should be in boots
A few other people will go to the Webster side of Perryville. It's not very dirty but we want it clean for the trail opening. One person in boots at the waters edge and another couple to go along the high water mark and help carry out should be enough to get the whole side and the coves.
Last, if we have time or people, a couple can work south from Peter Street to Frederick Street, not in the water, but on the embankment.
We have to make our deliveries by noon to town hall.
For this cleanup, we will furnish bags, water, coffee and donuts at the beginning, and gloves. We have enough waders to spread around where we need them. You will be asked to fill out a waiver of liability form as in the past.
We'll deploy our forces more efficiently if we know who is coming. Please email Ken if you plan to participate.
